The company AOL (American Online Service) company was known as “Quantum Computer Services Inc.” The company was founded in 1985 and named Quantum Computer Services Inc. Later, in 1991 it changed its name to America Online Service.

The company is also known as the godfather of the Internet as it became one of the earliest pioneers of the Internet, with more than 30 million users around the world. It is because before that there was no Internet.

Only specified companies were using computer networks at that time. And the rest were living in isolation.

The company evolved its services in 1988 and started consolidating and rebranding its services. It introduced the public to the world of the Internet and became a public company. AOL began to gain popularity by providing Dial-up Internet access to the public in 1991-92.

And by the end of the year 1993, the company became the fourth largest company in the USA. The was having 3000 members for its dial-up service at that time.

Along with dial-up service, the company provided a web portal, instant messaging, and email service. Later, the company also introduced a web browser for its members.

Going back to the early days of the company in 1982, the company Control Video of Dulles offered online services to only Commodore 64 computers and Apple II. Then later in 1985, it became QCS (Quantum Computer Services Inc.) Steve Case became the CEO of the company in 1991, and in the same year, the name of the company changed to just America Online.

At that time, it was again one of the top and most prominent companies in the USA with more than 1,50,000 members. AOL became the leading Internet Service Provider after it launched an Internet division in 1994. The company crossed the 10 million subscribers in 1997. After that, it got its top competitor, CompuServe.

At the present time, AOL is providing a lot of services to its subscribers with several great features. The features that the company is providing are email, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), Video, Video search, sports, news, weather, MapQuest, and stock quotes.

The email service of AOL is especially known for its “You’ve Got Mail” alert. Besides, it has MapQuest, which is an online source of getting direction and access Maps.

Along with these features, AOL offers extra services, IN2TV, with which subscribers can enjoy different classic TV shows. Also, you can access the most popular celebs news site, TMZ.com. And the best part is that you can enjoy all these features for free if you are an AOL subscriber.

The main purpose of the company was to introduce technology to the people. But as it started gaining more and more subscribers, it could not maintain the traffic and started crashing frequently. The company did not work to fix the issue. And this becomes the reason for the significant downfall of AOL.
