Mr Ghanshyam Sarda, Chairman, Sarda Group, has reportedly applauded the West Bengal state government’s efforts to allow the jute mills in the state to operate without additional restrictions. He also lauded other inclusions in the State budget to double rural income by 2022, increase budget allocations to skill and infrastructure development and assure housing tax holiday.
The Sarda Group controls a significant percentage of the jute production in the country. During the period when jute as an industry was falling and large business houses were walking away because of West Bengal’s labour militancy, the head of this conglomerate, Mr Ghanshyam Sarda, saw an opportunity. This was a chance to revive jute mills for their biodegradable and eco-friendly materials. The result was the revival of nine diminishing jute mills, the creation of employment in West Bengal and the comeback of the jute industry overall. Ghanshyam Sarda has now earned a reputation for reviving sick businesses, proving his visionary employee motivation approach across domains such as tea gardens, IT/ITES and chemicals.
