Addressing Common Challenges in the Wedding Invitation Timeline

Once you’ve picked a wedding date, it’s time to figure out when to send out those invites. As an organized bride, you’ll want to get started on this ASAP. A good rule of thumb is to mail out invitations 6-8 weeks before the big day.

For a formal wedding, you’ll want to send save-the-dates 6-12 months in advance so guests can arrange time off and travel. Include details about the venue location and nearest airport. For a smaller or destination wedding, save-the-dates can go out even earlier, up to 10-12 months ahead.

Next, compile your guest list and mailing addresses, including emails when possible. Double check that you have the correct spelling of names and mailing info for everyone. You don’t want any invites returned to sender!

About 2 months before the wedding, order your invitations, reply cards, and postage. Give the printer plenty of time in case you want to make any last minute changes or additions. Once they arrive, stuff the invites, seal and stamp the envelopes, and you’re ready to mail!

For out-of-town guests, be sure to include accommodation info and maps along with the invite. And don’t forget to follow up with guests who don’t RSVP – you’ll want a final headcount for the caterer at least 2 weeks before the big day!

Sticking to this timeline will help ensure all your guests receive their invites with plenty of notice. With the planning out of the way, you can then focus on all the other details for your perfect wedding day!

Tips for Staying on Track With Your Wedding Invitation Timeline

Once you’ve picked a wedding date, it’s time to tackle the invitation timeline. This can be challenging to navigate, especially if you’re a busy bride with a million other to-dos on your list.

Six to eight weeks before the wedding is a good time to start addressing envelopes.  Ask friends or family members to help speed up this tedious task. Having an assembly line going will make the time pass more quickly. You’ll want to double check that all names and addresses are correct before sealing envelopes and sending them out.

Around the same time, order your invites, enclosures and stamps. Don’t wait until the last minute and risk items being backordered or delayed. Buy a few extra of everything in case of errors or last minute invitees.

Double check details

About a month before mailing, double check all the details on your invites for any errors in spelling, dates or locations. Have a close friend or family member review them as another set of eyes. The last thing you want is to have to send correction cards because of an oversight.

Once invites are ready to mail, consider hand delivering or personally calling any VIPs like close family or out of town guests. For all other invites, aim to mail them out 6 to 8 weeks before the big day.

Providing guests plenty of advance notice is key. Following this timeline will help ensure maximum attendance and allow guests adequate time to RSVP, find attire, book travel and plan their schedules to celebrate with you! With some organization and preparation, you’ll get through this challenging part of wedding planning without a hitch.
