Is Austin the Best Place To Live in America?

When you hear Austin, do you think of music, food, and endless sunshine? Because that’s what this city can definitely offer you! In the past few years, this city has consistently made headlines for its growing economy and thriving community. This is not just a place tourists go to for great music and local restaurants. It’s also becoming a city where young professionals go to pursue their dreams of making it big in the tech industry.

Due to their popularity, the housing market has exploded. This means that the cost of living in monthly apartments in Austin has increased. However, it is still an affordable city to stay in. South Austin and North Austin, in particular, have plenty of budget-friendly places you can rent. If you aren’t sure about moving yet, here are five big reasons why they’re a great place to live in.

Prime Location In-State

The state of Texas has a location called the Texas Triangle. This is the area between Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Houston. It is considered the economic powerhouse of the state and the country.

Austin is located right along the triangle, which means that the people living in it have easy access to all the good things that the state has to offer. Everything is just a quick day trip away for the adventurous and open-minded.

It’s also a good location to start from if you need to take a trip to other major cities as well. You can quickly access the IH-35 and travel to Dallas-Fort Worth or San Antonio.

Warm and Pleasant Weather

If you can’t stand the thought of having to bundle up every time you go out, then you will want to live in Austin. This city is known for long, hot summers and mild winters. You can get plenty of sunshine and subsequently, plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Once you are settled in, you can look for local meetups that go swimming, hiking, and camping regularly throughout the year—even in the winter!

The Lady Bird Lake offers plenty of outdoor recreational activities like kayaking, fishing and rowing. Mount Bonnell boasts breathtaking views of the city, as well as the opportunity to see the entire Texas Hill County from its highest vantage point.

Austin does enjoy a little spring weather as well. It may be short, but they are breathtaking and you will definitely want to stay to see their famous bluebonnet flowers.

Great Job Prospects

Austin has consistently ranked high on lists of the best places to live in America. This southern city is known to be a hotbed for tech startups. Apple recently announced its work on a $1 billion campus, and the city is already home to offices for Facebook, Google, and Oracle. If you want to take your first steps in the tech industry, you may find your dream job here.

This is not to say that Austin is all about the big corporations. In fact, local small businesses are thriving as well. Their slogan, which is “Keep Austin Weird,” is a reference to how they want to prioritize their own businesses alongside the growth of the tech industry.

Thriving Local Restaurant Scene

Who doesn’t love a great restaurant scene? Austin is a dynamic city and it’s home to a diverse population. That only means that it’s got a lot of different cuisines for you to try out as well! Get hyped for food trucks, fusion cuisines, exotic dishes, organic meals, and more. The local restaurants are truly thriving and food entrepreneurs have consistently made headlines for their exceptional dishes.

If you are craving a little nightlife, Austin also has some awesome craft beers and breweries. Make sure to catch them during their happy hours so you can enjoy their crafts at a discount!

Plenty of Live Music

Before Austin was a bustling tech and business hub, it was (and still is!) the Live Music Capital of the World. This city has roots deep in the music scene. It is home to some of the most unique venues in the world, like the Continental Club and the Moody Theater, where you can book a ticket and enjoy a range of musical performances.

Austin also holds more concerts than anywhere else in the country and plenty of music festivals to keep you entertained. This is definitely the best place to visit if you are a music lover. Feel free to check the schedules ahead and find a live performance you can enjoy.

The only downsides to living in Austin is that the traffic can get difficult. It is recommended that you prepare for peak times between 8am and 10am, and then from 4pm to 6pm. In addition, the summers can be super fierce. Remember to rest and hydrate regularly if you are visiting between June and September.
